Your Essential Riches Part 7: Sometimes it just has to go down to the wire!

Down To The Wire: A Fine Line

Have you ever watched a football game, a tennis match or a cricket match where the winner won by just one point or one run and the whole show went down to the wire?

It happens all the time. Some people might call it a fluke, some people say it was a well fought match but there could only be one winner.

Down To The Wire... Life’s not necessarily a competition!

In life we all pick activities where we want to ‘win’, but often it seems too hard to win if we perceive there is too much competition out there.

Here lies the problem.

If we are to succeed in life, we should not be in the so-called ‘competitive plane’ - we should be in the ‘creative plane’.

If you think that the world is full of scarcity then you will be forever competing for ‘scarce’ resources. There can only be one winner and everyone else loses.

On the other hand if you are part of the ‘creative’ plane, there cannot be any scarcity because things are being created all the time.

It’s like the laws of thermodynamics:

"The total amount of energy and matter in the Universe remains constant, merely changing from one form to another.”

Down To The Wire: Razors Edge

Winning can be a close as The Razor’s Edge

That said, when getting what you want in life, sometimes it does come down to the wire.

The difference between achieving your goal and not, can be as thin a line as the proverbial ‘Razor’s Edge’.

So there must be a way of making sure you get across the line?

The simple answer is to be the best you can be:

  • If you’re in sports, be the best footballer, tennis player or cricketer you can be.
  • If you’re in sales, be the best sales person you can be.
  • If you are a musician, be the best musician you can be.

If that means extra hours, extra study, or whatever - DO THE WORK!

Sometimes the only line between success and failure can be as fine as the razor’s edge. But don’t let that deter you!

Down To The Wire: Do You Best

Down To The Wire: Do Your Best and you will always win - even if it isn’t so on the day.

If you can truthfully say you did do your best, then pat yourself on the back, even if you didn’t win. You know the sayings:

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try and try again."

"Keep on keeping on…"

Don’t let failures along the way deter you from your goals and dreams.

If you take the attitude that you are a winner, you will win.

"It's hard to beat a person who never gives up."

- Babe Ruth (1895-1948), professional baseball player
