Socialise For Success – How To Live A Happy And Successful Life Part 11

Socialise For Success

In this article we talk about how to socialise for success.

Having a great circle of friends and socialising with people is a great way to propel your life ahead.

That said, whilst we don't always meet people that we get on well with, having an active social life is great way to give yourself a boost.

Spending time with people not only makes you happy, but it also enhances your emotional well being, your personality and even your manners.

The key point to understand here is that it's not just the number of friends you have, but the quality of those relationships.

If you have a lot of friends who are positive and supportive, you will do a lot better than if you have no friends or if those you do have are not positive or supportive.

While making social connections, it is important that we realize that some social habits can be toxic and should be avoided.

In this regard, here are some tips for socialising for success.

1. Focus on the motivations and passions of others

A good way to socialise for success is to talk about other people's social assets as much as you can.

In this, you'll find out what inspires people, what their passions are, and how they are motivated.

As you get better at this skill, you will realize that at times you may even discover someone's hidden potentials that even they are unaware of.

More importantly, you will gain their trust, which can be important when seeking mutual endeavours.

The next two tips are about you - being positive to excess or being unduly negative about yourself or 'things in general'.

2. Complain Strategically - and Socialise For Success

Complaining on its own can be a major deterrent to happy social relations. It's a red alert for those whom you socialise with and it makes them dislike you.

People just don't want to hear about bad things that happen, and they don't necessarily want to focus on your problems.

On the other hand, you can use complaining in a strategic way. You can, for instance, point out a mutual problem and then propose a solution to it that all can benefit from.

Mind you, this only works IF you have a solution!

If you look at any sales letter you will see this in action!

Boast Constructively

3. Boast Constructively

In contrast, by all means talk about yourself, and talk about the good things in your life - but not to the extent of boasting about it.

So what is the difference between talking about yourself honestly and boasting?

When you boast, you indulge in self aggrandisement - you are blowing yourself up and out of all proportion with the real situation.

Furthermore, many people see this as an attempt to put them down and insult them.

Boasting might give you great happiness and boost your ego for a bit, but when done to excess it can be harmful to your social life.

Nobody prefers to be in the company of a boaster and it often leaves a bad impression on the people you socialise with. It also hyper-inflates your sense of worth.

By contrast, talking about yourself positively can inspire others to improve themselves.

So long as you are honest, both with yourself and others, you will earn respect from those you interact with.
