Today I briefly want to talk about a phenomenon that has been particularly prevalent in the last few years or so.
That is, the ‘victim mentality.’ If you have a victim mentality, then everything ‘happens to you’ – in other words, you are not ‘at cause’ for what happens in your life.
You know – things like: “Life is so unfair” “I wish my parents were richer.” “I wish I had better genetics.”
‘Victimhood’ is a classic example of ‘wrong thinking’ – in other words, thinking that doesn’t serve you and works against you.
The true answer to this is a ‘Victor’ mentality. That is, thinking that escalates your being and serves your interests.
Such examples of this are the Serenity Prayer:
God, give me grace to accept with serenity
the things that cannot be changed,
Courage to change the things
which should be changed,
and the Wisdom to distinguish
the one from the other.
You don’t need to be religious to appreciate what it is saying – accept what you can’t change, have the courage to change the things you can.
For instance, if you don’t have enough money, think of ways you can get more money rather than complaining about it.
It’s as well to note that everything we think, feel and do is created by us. It does not come from without. If we see something we don’t like, that is our choice to feel that way.
Once you realize this, you can flip any situation!
I think Candace Owens explains this well in the following video:
